eSIM-Compatible Phones | Updated May 2025
eSIM-compatible phones are smartphones that support an eSIM (embedded SIM) – a digital SIM card built into the device’s hardware. These phones let you add a mobile plan without inserting a physical SIM card, which is great for travelers and anyone who switches carriers frequently. In this guide, we’ll list modern phones that support eSIM, organized by major brands. (Important: Make sure your phone is unlocked (not tied to a specific carrier) to use eSIMs from different providers.)

We’ve updated this list with the latest models as of 2025. Keep in mind that eSIM availability can depend on the phone variant or country – for example, some phones sold in certain regions might not have the eSIM feature even if the model generally supports it. Below, find the eSIM-compatible phones by brand and some notes on regional differences.

Apple (iPhones with eSIM)
Apple introduced eSIM support in 2018 with the iPhone XR and iPhone XS/XS Max. Since then, all new iPhone models have included eSIM capability. Recent iPhones even allow using multiple eSIMs at once (dual eSIM support on iPhone 13 and later).

Also, on iPhone 13 and later, you can have two active eSIM plans simultaneously (Dual SIM Dual Standby with two eSIMs)

Note: There are important regional exceptions for Samsung. The Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition) does not support eSIM, and earlier U.S. carrier versions of the Galaxy S20/S21 did not enable eSIM.
Almost all Samsung phones sold in China and Hong Kong lack eSIM support (they typically ship with dual physical SIM slots).
For instance, a Galaxy bought in Hong Kong or certain U.S. carrier-locked versions might not have the eSIM feature, even if the same model internationally does. Always check your specific device variant if you’re unsure.

Google (Pixel phones with eSIM)
Google’s Pixel phones were among the first Android devices to adopt eSIM. The Pixel 2 from 2017 technically included an eSIM, but it was initially only enabled for Google’s own Project Fi (now Google Fi) service.
Starting with the Pixel 3 (2018) and Pixel 3a (2019), Google rolled out eSIM support more broadly – all Pixel models from the 3 onward have eSIM capability.
Here are the Pixel phones compatible with eSIM:
-
Google Pixel 2 (only phones bought with Google Fi service)
-
Google Pixel 2 XL
-
Google Pixel 3 (not including phones bought in Australia, Taiwan or Japan. Phones bought with US or Canadian carriers other than Spring and Google Fi don’t work with eSIM)
-
Google Pixel 3 XL
-
Google Pixel 3a (not including phones bought in Japan or with Verizon service)

Google Pixel 3a XL

Google Pixel 4

-

-
Google Pixel 9
-
Google Pixel 9 Pro
-

Note: All Pixel phones from the 3a onward can use Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) with one physical SIM + one eSIM at the same time. In fact, Pixel 7 and newer can even enable two eSIM profiles concurrently (with no physical SIM inserted) if carriers allow. As with other brands, there are some regional caveats: Pixel devices sold in certain regions might have eSIM disabled.
For example, Pixel 3 models sold in Japan, Taiwan, or Australia did not support eSIM, and Pixel phones sold in Hong Kong do not support eSIM at all. Google’s own unlocked Pixel units generally have eSIM, but carrier-branded versions (especially older models on Verizon, etc.) might have had it turned off in software.

Huawei (Phones with eSIM)
Huawei has included eSIM support in only a handful of its premium devices. The feature first appeared in select 2020 flagships and is slowly re-emerging in new releases.

Huawei P40 Pro
-

-

Note: P40 Pro+, P50 Pro, most pre-2020 or sanction-era models lack eSIM; only P40, P40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro, and Pura 70 Pro (where regional firmware allows) include it—always check your exact variant.

I used this eSIM across Italy, France, and Spain for a 3-week trip, and it worked better than my local provider back home. Setup took 3 minutes, and I had full bars in the middle of the Alps. No app issues, no top-ups. It just worked. Highly recommend if you’re tired of airport SIM card chaos.

I’ve tried 4 different eSIM providers over the last year. This one has the most consistent signal and clearest pricing. I used it in Germany and Croatia without any manual network switching. Download speeds were strong enough for Zoom calls on the go. This is now my go-to option for work trips.
Koji Tanaka

Absolutely saved me in Istanbul. My Airbnb Wi-Fi went down, and this eSIM kept me connected for uploads and live stories without lag. Customer support responded in under 5 minutes when I had a question about data tracking. Super professional and reliable.
Lara Martins

I used this eSIM during a weekend in Lisbon and then again in Copenhagen a month later. Connection was stable the entire time, even in the metro and cafes. I didn’t need to touch a single setting—just scanned the QR code and it worked. It’s now part of my travel routine.
